At “Magic” Basketball Camp we
focus on the scientific
analysis of measurements of our
young friends’ skills.
The measurements are performed by specialists, scientific
collaborators of the camp.
The students-athletes receive Individual
evaluation certificates with biomechanical and
cinematical analyses , that
include snapshots
on selected basic skills. The reaction time
as well as the athletes’ ability
to focus is analyzed by a
suitable computer program. Included also are
measurements of body
indices and properties of physical condition (speed,
skillfulness, jumping ability, and more) by using
appropriate instruments, such as photocells
and an ergo jump,
the measurements of which are recorded and
analyzed by software.
A sample of an evaluation
certificate follows:

Marked are the angles formed at the elbow
and knee, the correct values of which are
explained to the athletes. Also, remarks
are written under the pictures.
Note: The names of
athletes shown on the pages of the
evaluation certificate, above, do not
refer to existing people.

The effort to perfect the
execution of basic offensive skills is a
necessary precondition for players, so
that they may reach high standards of
achievement. The player with the most
solid foundation is a full player,
according to Earvin “Magic” Johnson
(from his autobiography). At Magic
Basketball Camp, boys and girls are
trained on basic details, and the
exercises are done to endow them with
confidence, to transfer their skills to
the environment of a game, and to
contribute to their enjoyment of the
game.
“Magic” B. C. during
training provides suggestions
and detailed instructions on balance,
ball control, passing, dribbling,
shooting, rebound, in motions with or
without the ball, offense development,
and more, by Dr. Nick Stavropoulos and
his colleagues-coaches of the camp. It
also provides qualitative
proposals for the correct
use of basic skills in offenses: 1 on 1,
2 on 2, 3 on 3. Progress in offensive and
defensive basic skills of basketball will
lead to games of 5 on 5, providing a
chance to the players to work through a
large number of exercises in a
competitive environment. The learning of
the basics depends on the level and basic
background of the student. The
students-athletes participate in
individual tests and coaching games, and
work with discipline, cooperation, and in
team spirit.
The young
students-athletes, upon arriving at the
camp, receive T-shirt
and cap.
Celebrities
of basketball are invited and talk about
their experiences:

WHAT BASKETBALL OFFERS TO CHILDREN
THROUGH THE CAMP
1. HEALTH IMPROVEMENT
Health is one of the most important factors in
child development, and it can be strengthened
through the techniques of basketball.
2. DEVELOPMENT OF
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL PRINCIPLES
Basketball can contribute to the development of
personal and social principles, which are
essential for the educational course of the child
and the teenager.
3. OBLIGATIONS
The young players learn that they must abide by
certain obligations.
4. PERSISTENCE/INSISTENCE
One must be persistent at one’s goals in life,
and basketball helps develop this quality. Being
persistent means that you will attempt at the
maximum of your abilities.
5. PERSONAL
RESPONSIBILITY WITHIN THE TEAM
It is very important for the young players to
learn to assume personal responsibility for the
benefit of the team. Basketball is an excellent
school for the development of this dimension.
6. TEAM WORK
In relation to the previous, it is important for
the children to learn to work as a team.
7. RESPECTING THE RULES
It is clear that playing basketball one must
abide by the rules: the rules of the game, the
internal rules, the rules of learning.
8. RESPECTING THE OTHERS
Basketball is ideal for one to learn to work as a
team. It is a good way of learning to respect the
others: teammates, coaches, referees.
